BASF Aktlengesellschaft, whose BASF Magnetics GmbH subsidiary is a well-known producer of magnetic tape, and the RAKS Group, which is one of the world's leading manufacturers of audio and video cassettes have signed a Letter of Intent.

According to it BASF will -- subject to consent by internal and external supervisory bodies -- sell its complete magnetic products business to the RAKS Group as of Jan. 1, 1997. The parties have agreed to keep the selling price secret.
BASF has been cooperating successfully with the RAKS Group for years. The exchange of goods -- coated tape material from BASF, ready-made audio cassettes from RAKS -- reached a value of DM 60 million in 1995."
