** ABOUT MECHLABOR STM-310 **

Hungarian People'sRepublic which deal with the Budapest branch Videoton in 1974 built a series of decks STM.
Let me introduce you a professional tape recorder Mechlabor STM 310.
Best of the best at the Eastern Bloc. STM-310 production started in 1976. The unit was very common in the 80s and produced until the "end of an equivalent era in the early '90s") to 93rd.
It should be noted that the engineers of the Hungarian company Mechanikai Laboratórium (ML) Budapest made a great job developing a line of STM. These recorders, build quality, functionality, technical characteristics and capabilities can be compared with OTARI (Japan) and Studer (Switzerland).
Besides that explicitly note his dignity - transparent "pure sound", STM also manages not to make virtually any "color" in the recorded sound that is characteristic only for analog recorders of the highest class! I think it is because of these qualities only STM-s were used at the Olympics 80-year, in the Soviet Union and have proved very worthy, but also honored to be selected, according to the state order of the USSR as the main conveyor machines for "Soviet Post-production" ).
And yet, in the end, almost all the video and audio products to the USSR, since the '80s and until the end of the country in general has been created with the help of "100 pounds" machines!

The Mechlabor STM 310 is the pinnacle of the former "Eastern Block" reel to reel recorder design. It is the recorder that was used literally by every radio and TV studio, recording studio and record production company in Eastern Europe before the Berlin wall came down, and still being used today in studios that want that warm analog sound. Almost all LPs produced in Eastern Europe were originally recorded on one of these machines. As the world switched to digital, most of the units found their way into private collections of reel to reel enthusiasts, because of the great sound and build quality that is virtually maintenance free and built to last forever. That's also why they are so rare to find - those who own them usually don't want to sell them.

If you turned on the radio somewhere in Eastern Europe (Budapest, Berlin, Moscow, Prague, Warsaw, etc.) in the 80s, whatever was playing, was surely playing on a Mechlabor machine. Unless it was imported music, it was probably also recorded on one. They were even exported to Africa, Cuba and several countries in Asia, and collectors later bought them on every continent.

The STM-310 is built like a tank. Very stable and virtually indestructible. It has quite a few examples of engineering ingenuity. Built with Pabst motors, Woelke and Mechlabor heads. Plays/records at 19 and 38 speeds, and has its own adapters for AEG, NAB and Cine reel.
To this day, these machines can be found in professional recording studios. Actually, what puts Mechlabor STM-310 on a par with the best representatives among professional studio machine:
